Taxes and Scams, and Your Family Plan

The trick

Two final grown-up skills. First, taxes: a portion of income goes to the government to fund public services. You don't need to be an expert, but know the basics — keep records, file on time, and learn the legal deductions you're entitled to (retirement contributions, insurance, home-loan interest, and more), because using them legally lowers your tax. Second, protect yourself from scams: no real bank or government asks for your password, PIN or OTP; "guaranteed high returns with no risk" is always a lie; and pressure to act "right now" is the scammer's favourite tool — slow down and verify. Finally, bring it together into a simple family money plan: budget, emergency fund, insurance, debts under control, and regular investing. That's what turns a Money Rookie into a Family CFO.

Worked examples

💰 Money task: Write a one-page family money plan: your budget split, emergency-fund goal, insurance you have/need, debts to clear, and one regular saving/investing habit. Review it every few months.
