Beat the Butterflies

The trick

Almost everyone feels nervous before speaking — even professionals. The secret scientists discovered: those feelings are identical to excitement. So re-label them — say "I'm excited," not "I'm scared." Your breath is your off-switch for panic: a slow breath out (longer than the breath in) tells your brain you're safe. And nerves shrink with practice — rehearse your opening until it's automatic.

Worked examples

🎤 Speaking homework: Do three slow calming breaths, then record a 60-second self-introduction (name, one thing you love, one goal). Watch it once — you looked far calmer than you felt.
