$129,180 · BLS median

The fastest-growing computer job. Certifications matter more than a degree — one of the best paths for a career-changer to break into tech.

CYBER SECURITY 1 IT basics 2 Security+ 3 IT / SOC · $70–95K 4 Analyst · $129K 5 CISSP / cloud
Gold = credential gate. Each turn: more skill → more pay → the next step.
  1. 1
    Learn IT fundamentals
Networking, OS, basic scripting. Start with CompTIA A+ / Network+ if new to IT.
◆ GMA Academy — IT foundations
  2. 2
    Earn CompTIA Security+
The industry entry cert. By CompTIA; exam ~$400; study 1–3 mo. Often gets the first interview.
    ◆ GMA jobs + mentor
  3. 3
    Enter via IT / help-desk / SOC
Many analysts start in IT support or a Security Operations Center.
  4. 4
Work as a security analyst (2–4 yrs)
Monitor, respond, harden systems; level up with CySA+.
  5. 5
    Specialize: CISSP, cloud security, GRC
CISSP (needs 5 yrs experience) is the senior gold standard. Cloud security (~$130–160K) or GRC branch from here.

The flywheel: each certification is a paid gate — Security+ gets you in, experience + CySA+/CISSP compound into six-figure senior and cloud-security roles. Demand far outpaces supply.
