Technique explanation
Before writing a word, ask: Who am I talking to? and What do I want them to think, feel, or do? A great talk is a gift to the audience. Every strong talk has one clear purpose — TED calls it the through-line, a single idea that runs through everything. Cram in five ideas and they remember none. Pick one. Purposes fall into three buckets: to inform, to persuade, or to inspire/entertain.
